Lucca

5th April, Lucca,

Up early again. This time to get to Lucca for lunch time with a plan to get to our site in Florence by late afternoon. We were starting to experience more Motorhome activity and as you can not book these over night stops we wanted to be sure we could get a space. But still no English Motorhomers!!
We arrived in Lucca for 11.00 and eventually found a parking spot next to the local football ground. Lucca is a must do. We fell in love with it immediately. It's the birth place of Puccini, is noted for its monumental Renaissance wall, a "round" old square, as Jacqui puts it and is chock-full of handsome churches and old buildings.

We made for the 11th century Cattedrale di San Martino first, where there is a magnificent last supper by Tintoretto and almost got lost when we tried to find our round square. On route we saw a wedding with an English bride, groom and guests going from the Church to reception. We stopped for lunch in the town, our first Italian Pizza which was absolutely delicious. Just after 2.00pm we set off again and set our sites on Florence. We were both looking forward to this city and we knew there was a lot of planning to do if we were to see everything Florence had to offer.
